2 Mondays: Feb. 1 and 8

7:00-8:00pm

Tuition: $10 before Jan. 25, $15 after (scholarships available)

The words of John Lewis and of Henry David Thoreau in the title frame the source of many voices and stories that convey the Bible’s contributions to our understanding of the issues raised by confrontation with authority abuses its power. What can we learn from the Hebrew midwives or from Moses in Pharaoh’s court, or from Nathan in David’s, or Daniel and friends in Nebuchadnezzar’s, or Esther in Ahasuerus’ palace? Do the words of Amos or Jeremiah resonate in our time, and was the trouble these prophets got into the “good trouble” we want? Is there a law above the King, as it is above all, and must the King be reminded of that? These are just a few of the sources and issues that we will draw on for our conversation on the theme of Civil Disobedience.
