A Day of Racial Reckoning and Healing with SAAACAM

Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021

8:30am-12:00pm

FREE

The Sol Center, Race Ed SA and SAAACAM join forces to present a morning of Conscious Conversations for the whole family. Workshops, discussions and activities explore the topics of:

  • Stereotyping – to believe unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic are the same

  • Diasporic Education – diaspora refers to situations when Indigenous peoples, immigrants, and emigrants are forced to leave or voluntarily leave their tribes, native lands, territories, communities, or countries due to such reasons as imperialism, colonialism, political persecution, economic exploitation, trade, or labor migrations. While people in diaspora might not maintain strong ties with their homelands or native lands, they lack full integration into the host lands.

  • Institutional Racism – also known as systemic racism, is a term that refers to a form of racism that is embedded in the laws and regulations of a society or an organization. It manifests as discrimination in areas such as criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, education, and political representation.

A host of presenters specializing in these topics will present these topics in age appropriate settings.  Ages all be divided by: pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle school, high school, college and adults.  Snacks and boxed lunches will be served.  (Masks are required.) ADMISSION IS FREE! REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
