Edwin Arrison is a protege and close friend of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu. He is an Anglican priest, ordained by Tutu in 1992, and a gifted theologian, activist, writer, and entrepreneur. His main passion is working with and empowering young people. He is the founding Director of a Youth Programme of which the Archbishop was a patron.

On Nov 7, Rev. Arrison will discuss his life with the “Arch,” as close friends refer to Archbishop Desmond Tutu. He brings many unique stories from his 37-year walk with Tutu. The focus of his remarks will be “Personal Encounters with and the Spirituality of Archbishop Desmond Tutu,” and his legacy for us today. This event is co-sponsored with University Presbyterian Church.

Reverend Arrison, born and raised in Cape Town, now lives with his wife and two daughters in Hermanus, a small town on the Western Cape known as the whale capital of South Africa. He has lived and studied in several countries including the United States.

He was awarded the 2022 “Champion of Justice” award by the Indiana Center for Middle East Peace. He is very close to the Community of Taize in France, a community of monks known for their youth work and reconciliation work. In 2009, he travelled to Palestine twice to work with Kairos Palestine and to be present at the launch of the Kairos Palestine document in 2009.

Arrison is a trustee of the Volmoed Trust, a conference and retreat centre founded by Archbishop Tutu?. He and a colleague launched the Volmoed Youth programme in 2017 of which Archbishop Tutu was a patron. He has founded several youth programs over the years.
