Postponed to Fall---Hope and Resilience: A Study of Two Narratives with Bonnie Lyons--Online Zoom

  • University Presbyterian Church 300 Bushnell Avenue San Antonio, TX, 78212 United States (map)

In different ways and forms, two books introduced in this class, celebrate resilience and hope despite the dark powers that threaten. In the first class, we will explore Elizabeth Wetmore’s novel, Valentine, set in Odessa, Texas in 1976, about the aftermath of a brutal sexual assault as seen through the eyes of several of the town’s complex, relatable women. In the second class we will focus on a memoir, Hope Jahren’s, Lab Girl, in which her love of plants and her triumph over various difficulties make this unique, brilliantly written memoir unforgettable reading.

Bonnie Lyons, writer, poet, UTSA professor emerita, loves literature and loves to teach. She has offered classes at SoL several times over the years.
