In the midst of a global pandemic, feeling overwhelmed by hopelessness and despair can be common and exacerbate existing struggles with depression and anxiety. This course will explore signs, symptoms, and ways to cope with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on your mental health.
Kathy Phoenix is a Doctor of Social Work and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has had the privilege of journeying with individuals as a social worker since 1989. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings to include mental health, chronic illness, geriatrics, palliative and hospice care, and complicated grief & bereavement. She also served in the US Army Reserve from 1989 – 1996 as a medical laboratory specialist and has continued to incorporate a specialty of working with veterans and their families into her social work practice. Along with maintaining a small clinical practice, Kathy is a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX. Her research focuses on assessing barriers to care for elders, with a specific focus on LGBT elders. She obtained her Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from Capella University in 2019, Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Kansas in 1996 and her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Colorado State University in 1989.
