Join us as we re-imagine our understanding of democracy. In this course, by examining the current state of the American soul and the American dream, we will explore how to develop and sustain the moral courage to engage in civil yet honest discourse in the search for the common good.

Larry Hufford, Ph.D., is Professor of Political Science at St. Mary’s University. For the past decade he has chaired the Department of International Relations. Prior to joining the St. Mary’s faculty in 1993, he taught at Incarnate Word College. He has been invited to lecture at universities around the world. Beginning in 1986, Dr. Hufford traveled to El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala more than twenty five times to research causes of war, as well as its impact on the civilian population and the environment. From 1996 to 2006, he traveled to Bangladesh nine times to work with an NGO on
integrated rural sustainable development. He has conducted research with indigenous populations in Bolivia and North Eastern India, as well as development in Haiti and Cuba. Dr. Hufford received his doctorate from the London School of Economics and Political Science, England. He has also been
involved with local nonprofits, especially with Merced Housing of Texas.
