Years of development in the Eagle Ford Shale have taught industry, local communities, landowners, public health officials, legislators, and regulators much about the effects of Eagle Ford fracking. This course will summarize that experience from the viewpoint of an environmental advocate who is also a mineral rights owner. The context is our social responsibility as a people of faith in the God of Creation. Participants are asked to come prepared to share two favorite quotes from their own faith or philosophical statements on the stewardship of Creation.

Discussion: Fracking, Faith and Fellowship—Sr. Riebschlaeger will present an introduction to Eagle Ford Shale Development from Lease to Market to Social Responsibility. There will be a time of sharing of faith or philosophical statements on the environment and stewardship of Creation.

Tour: Bus Tour of the Eagle Ford Shale—Meet at the SoL Center and then travel by bus to Wilson, Karnes, DeWitt, and Gonzales counties. Lunch included.

Sr. Elizabeth Riebschlaeger, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word of, has focused on education and faith formation of children, adults, families, and prisoners, including two on death row. She is now engaged in her own continuing education about the shale industry. Born and raised in Cuero, DeWitt County, she, her sister and eight cousins became involved in Eagle Ford Shale development when they signed leases for inherited mineral rights in La Salle County. Motivated by social responsibility, she monitors developments in the Eagle Ford and continues her personal study of shale technology, science, ongoing development from lease to market as well as its public health, social, economic, and environmental impacts.
